My biggest takeaway from building the unit is the importance of hands on interaction. Students are only going to learn the content if they are engaging with the material. This unit talks about the water cycle which is a science standard. This unit connects science with an increase in cognitive demand because it asks students to create a diagram. This science unit also connects to art because students are creating and drawing AND using beads to represent the water cycle. Next time I build a unit, I definitely want to think about how to supplement the lessons with extra hands on/experimental components. This can be integrated in all subjects because I want to make sure students are doing the exploring and thinking in every lesson. I would tell students next semester to think about the students in your class when planning your unit. This makes it easier to plan activities around what you think your students would engage well with.
