Goal 1: By the end of the unit I will generate strong, evidence-based arguments to inform an audience about important issues.

Goal 2: By the end of the unit I will understand how literary elements like symbolism, theme, conflicts, and character traits impact a story.

In reflecting upon the goal I have created for my unit plan, I am struggling to ensure the goal is measurable. The unit I have planned the goal for is a mini unit focused on the reading and writing skills for the entire year. This unit focuses on preparing for students for the upcoming CMAS testing they will have directly following this short unit.

In terms of the goal being measurable, I am going to focus the goal at meeting the criteria of the associated standards. For writing, the goal will focus on the paragraphs receiving the score of a three which is proficient. With the reading, I would focus the multiple choice questions about a reading to meet the score associated with a three or proficient (15/20).

The way I have worded the goals in a general sense without the specific way students will meet the goals. My question with my goals, is do I need to clarify the score in the goals?

Other than these specific goal related issues, the unit plan itself is coming together easily outside of the specifics of the assessments as those are still being clarified with the grade level team.
