My biggest key take away from building this unit is knowing your kids enough to figure out how long they will need. I can see some kids taking the full 4 weeks and others being done in 2 days trying to get everything done. I tried to put in these extra things for those students put also make them supports for students who need the full 4 weeks of writing time.
This does ask a lot of students because there are a few different moving pieces. These pieces are there to help guid student thinking such as drawing a picture to go with their narrative story. This can be used to help they say what they sre trying to or even figure out what details they can add from their drawings to their writing.
Making sure things are measurable. I only looks at two of students final drafts but I also know some students are sick or others arent there that much so by having both first drafts and final drafts I have things to work with in order to assess even if they miss a draft.
For next semester I would have a full first draft and second draft to show how I changed it but kept some of the same things from a story in Wonders. Instead of only having pieces and the necessary pieces written.
