Goal of Citing Sources

The goal I have and want to accomplish is having students accurately citing their sources in their writing. Through reading some of the students work I have noticed that they have some trouble with citing outside sources into their writing. I would assess this by giving them just a simple short paper to write that is like one page maybe a few paragraphs and then giving them some sources to cite from. I would have them cite at least three sources and ensuring that they are doing it correctly. There is obviously various ways to cite sources, however I would just go with what they know and what they usually use in their papers and make sure they have the citation in correct order. I would give them an example on the board of how to write a citation and then have them begin their writing.

The most important thing I have needed to consider in, my unit planning is the various needs of all my students. Many of the classes I teach are gen ed, however I do have two classes that have co teachers/ support teachers for the students. So I have had to consider the needs of those students a lot to ensure that they are getting what they need in order to learn.

This is all connected because every student is different and has various needs, and I want to ensure that I am able to get the point across to my students and know that they are able to learn what I am teaching without falling behind or getting stuck.

Examples

  • supports (scaffolding for those students who really need it)
  • frequent check ins with the students who seem to be struggling
  • class check ins to ensure that everyone is doing okay and that if they need help they know where to go or who to ask
  • Teacher examples
  • student examples
